Abstract

1476382 Alkylammonium carboxylate salts of esters of dimer and trimer acids ROHM & HAAS CO 26 April 1974 [2 May 1973] 50805/76 Heading C2C [Also in Divisions C5 and C3] Surface active alkyl ammonium carboxylate salts of an ester of a dimer or trimer or mixture of dimers and trimers of an unsaturated aliphatic monocarboxylic acid of 16-18 C atoms with an alkoxylated alkyl phenol, which estersalts may be of the formula where n is a value in the case of a single compound or average value in the case of a mixture of compounds from 1 to 12À5, Z is a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon residue of the dimer or trimer or the mixture of dimers and trimers, x and y are 1 or 2, the sum of x and y being 2 when Z is the residue of a dimer, and 3 when Z is the residue of a trimer, R 4 is C 4 -C 12 alkyl, R 5 is H or C 4 -C 12 alkyl and R 6 is an alkyl or aminoalkyl of from 2-24 C atoms; may be made by acid catalysed esterification of a suitable dimer or trimer acid or a mixture thereof followed by conversion to the salt by addition of a suitable amine.
