Abstract

1483199 Salt-esters of ethoxylated phenols ROHM & HAAS CO 4 July 1974 [16 July 1973] 29759/74 Heading C3R [Also in Division C2 and C5] A corrosion inhibitor for hydrocarbon oils or fuels in a salt-ester derived by reacting (a) an ester of a polymerized C 16-18 unsaturated monocarboxylic acid with a less than equivalent amount of an ethoxylated alkyl phenol and (b) an aliphatic amine; the molar ratio of ester to alkyl ammonium functionality in the salt-ester being from 1 : 4 to 4 : 1. The ethoxylated alkyl phenol preferably contain from 1 to 12À5 ethoxy groups and 1 or 2 alkyl groups each containing 4-12 carbon atoms. The amine is preferably of the formula NR 6 R 7 R 8 where R 6 is a C 1-24 alkyl or amino alkyl group, and R 7 and R 8 are the same or are hydrogen atoms. More preferably the amine is a tertiary alkyl primary amine of formula where R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are alkyl groups containing a total of 6-24 carbon stoms. Preferably R 1 and R 3 are methyl groups.
