Abstract

1,188,112. Coating. COURTAULDS Ltd. 11 July, 1967 [12 July, 1966], No. 31241/66. Heading B2K. [Also in Divisions C2 and C3] A surface is coated with a composition comprising an unsaturated ester of the general formula: in which R is H or alkyl, R<SP>1</SP> is alkylene and R<SP>2</SP> is an aliphatic radical containing at least one C=C bond, the ester being liquid at room temperature, having a boiling point of at least 200‹C and a molecular weight of less than 800, with or without a curable binder. In the Example a mild steel panel is coated with a solution of an unsaturated fatty acid modified alkyd obtained by condensation of safflower fatty acids itaconic acid and trimethylolpropane to form an alkyd which is dissolved in diallyloxypropyl fumarate.
