Valves; valve-gear. - In a four-stroke-cycle engine, of the,kind described in Specification 128,870, in which an inlet and exhaust valve d is worked from a double-loop cam on the crank-shaft, the cam-grooves b', b<2> are formed with internal flanges b<3>, b' so as to move the valve positively in both directions. The lower end r of the valve-rod is formed as a plate of sufficient width to engage the side of the cam-groove at the crossing-point before the rollers i<1>, so that the plate r guides the rollers through the crossing of the cam-grooves. The valverod is formed in two parts c, r with a swivelling connexion s<4>, r<2>, and the lower end is forked and connected by a pin joint at n<1> to a roller-carrier i shown separately in Fig. 9. By this arrangement the rollers can run truly on the cam-grooves whilst they pass from one track to the other. The part s<4> of the valve-rod has flat sides and moves between parallel guiding-surfaces as the rollers move across the cam. The rollers i' run on roiler bearings. The cam is built up of a central disk and two side disks suitably shaped to form the grooves, and is made large enough to serve as the fly-wheel.
