Driving-gear.-To impart strokes of different lengths to the piston of a four-stroke-cycle engine, the connecting-rod is attached to a crankarm 7 carrying the wheel 3 of a sun-and-planet gear. During the suction and compression strokes, the crank-pin traverses the portions I, II and II, III respectively of path shown in dotted lines in Fig. 6, the portions III, IV and IV, I being traversed by the pin during the combustion and exhaust strokes.
