Abstract

1472567 Vapour generation systems employing fluidized beds FOSTER WHEELER CORP 16 July 1974 [25 July 1973] 31401/74 Heading F4A A vapour generation system comprises a housing 10 in which are arranged a number of vertically spaced beds of particulate fuel material 26a, 26b, 26c, 26d each of which is supported on an apertured plate 24 through which pressurized air is passed to promote combustion and fluidization of the material; welded generating tube walls 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 containing the beds and generating tube banks 64, 84, 88, 94 being provided in the beds. Air from a compressor enters the housing 10 at 30 passes to each bed via valved openings 28, then exhausts through openings 32 and outlet 34. Inlet liquid is first vapourized in the tube bank 64 and after further vapourization in the tube walls is superheated in tube banks 84, 88; the tube bank 94 being used for reheating, e.g. between turbine stages. An additional bed 104 receives unburnt fuel material separated from the exhaust 34 and supplies hot gases which are passed, with those separated at 34 to a gas turbine driving the inlet air compressor (Fig. 4, not shown).
