1473742 Fluidized bed incinerators HOUSTON PROCESS ENG Ltd 31 Oct 1975 [11 Dec 1974] 53502/74 Heading BIF [Also in Division F4] In a fluidized bed incinerator for burning industrial or town waste and comprising a combustion chamber 3 having a perforated floor 4 sloping downwardly from an inlet 5 for waste material to be burnt to an outlet 7 for uncombustable material and ash, the space below the perforated floor is divided into a plurality of plenum chambers 8-11, said chambers or the perforations in the floor above the chambers being dimensioned to give progressively increasing velocities to the flow of air through the floor in the direction towards the lower end of the floor. Each chamber is connected to a common supply manifold 16 by a respective pipe 12, 13, 14, 15. The upper end of the combustion chamber leads into an extended portion 19 which forms a reservoir for particulate refractory material 20 such as sand filling the combustion chamber 3. A system of baffles 22 prevents the sand entering the plenum chambers. Combustion gases leaving the incinerator through a flue 21 are passed into a scrubbing plant for removal of noxious gases. Waste oils or gases to be burnt may be introduced into the incinerator through an inlet (not shown) disposed between the ash outlet 7 and an auxiliary air inlet 18.
