Abstract

1471978 Positioning ring rails SACO LOWELL CORP 30 Sept 1974 [24 Oct 1973] 42316/74 Heading DID A yarn twister with a ring rail 12 and builder mechanism to reciprocate it along a vertical path during normal operation is provided with an auxiliary ring rail positioning means to position the rail at a doffing position along the path of travel upon completion of a package, e.g. detected by a yardage counter, 45, by moving the rail unidirectionally to this position, i.e. upwards if the rail is below the position and downwards if the rail is above the position. The main drive motor 34 is connected to a ring rail windlass 20 via clutches 30, 32 which communicate drive in either direction as selected by end of traverse switches 40, 42. An auxiliary drive motor 50 is connected by clutch 52 when the package is completed, the direction of rotation of motor 50 being determined by the ring rails position at completion of the package, this being sensed by the ring rail passing switch 46. When the ring rail then reaches switch 46 the machine is stopped. Motor 50 remains connected by clutch 52 so that on restarting it drives ring rail 12 in rapid reciprocation between switches 40, 48 for a predetermined time which ties in the yarn end and after which normal operation resumes. The operating circuit of the machine is described and includes ends down detectors which stop the machine without the ring rail positioning sequence occuring. The switches 40, 42, 46, 48 are vertically adjustable to set the length of traverse and the doffing position.
