Abstract
1399547 Vehicle control BERTIN & CIE 10 Nov 1972 [10 Nov 1971] 51944/72 Heading B7H The position and speed of a vehicle moving over a track are determined by counting during passage the teeth on a rack extending parallel to the vehicle track. Where the rack forms part of the vehicle drive system the count is obtained by detecting the number of revolutions of a vehicle drive pinion. Vehicle 1 is supported and guided on inverted T-shaped track 2 by air cushions 3 and 4 and driven by a pinion 7 which engages rack 6 formed on the upright part 5 of the track. The number of revolutions of the shaft 9 driving the pinion is detected by counter 10 and this information and the vehicle identity is transmitted via pick-off 11 and conductor rail 13 to a track side central station 12. The station records the information and sends control instruction via the rail 13 to receive and control unit 14 which controls the drive motor 8. The counter 10 can be coupled via a toothed element directly to the drive pinion or can be operated by movement of a spring loaded roller which is in contact with the rack teeth. A further element operated by the pinion or the roller is provided at the start of a track section, e.g. at stations, for returning the counter to zero. The trackside central stations can be replaced by a control unit on each vehicle which are in communication via the conductor rail 13.
