Abstract

1469329 Washing machines WHIRLPOOL CORP 18 Nov 1974 [23 Nov 1973] 49817/74 Heading D1A An oscillatory agitator for a vertical-spindle viz an agitator and an upper structure type washing machine is formed in two parts and comprises a barrel portion and a sleeve coaxial with and received over the barrel portion and including a vane or vanes 43 Fig. 2, to force clothing downwards towards main agitating vanes 37, of the agitator, the two parts being linked by a one-way clutch 44, 45 Fig. 4. When the main vanes 37 are oscillated on the shaft 38 the clutch drives the subsidiary vanes 43 in only one direction causing a rolling or toroidal movement of the laundry in the tub.
