Abstract

1468510 Doffing in carding engines; carded non-woven fabric BONDED FIBRE FABRIC Ltd 24 April 1974 [9 May 1973 4 Oct 1973 17 Dec 1973] 22241/73 46445/73 and 58421/73 Headings D1N and D1R In a carding machine comprising a train of at least three carding cylinders 1-9 having successively increasing surface speeds, a doffer 13 is provided which receives fibre projected from the last carding cylinder 9 and is arranged spaced from the penultimate cylinder 8 by 17 to 500 thousandths of an inch leaving a space between the penultimate cylinder. The last cylinder and the doffer through which fibres pass. A train of successive doffers 27, 28, 29 (Fig. 5) may be provided and also a second doffer 32 or train of doffers located adjacent cylinder 9 but remote from cylinder 8. This method and apparatus is said to produce a web of high transverse strength and examples are given relating to nylon fibres the web being finally bonded with a polyacrylate emulsion. Other bonding agents mentioned are viscose and acrylic latex and the web may be combined with similar webs in parallel or cross-laid relationship.
