Abstract

1,080,862. Laminates. B.B.A. GROUP Ltd. Dec. 24, 1963 [Jan. 10, 1963], No. 1152/63. Heading B5N. A loose web of or including asbestos fibres is reinforced by uniting it to a non-woven glass-fibre tissue by needling. In one embodiment, a carded web is fed intermittently by an endless conveyer, together with a tissue, through the guide plates of a needle loom and needling is carried out from one or both faces. There may be a difference in speed between the conveyer and the wind-up rolls to counteract the compressive action of the needles. During needling, asbestos fibres are thrust through the tissue, a portion of these thrust fibres optionally being drawn back into the web. The web may be formed by mechanical laying apparatus or by the use of forced air draught or suction, and may include loose fibres, slivers, slubbings, yarns and rovings. The web may be laminated between the tissues; alternatively, a folded web can be so reinforced or several webs and tissues can be combined. The web may be laid up on the tissue.
