Abstract

1,107,394. Knitting yarns. R. H. MARKS. 24 May, 1965 [1 June, 1964; 23 Nov., 1964], No. 21853/65. Headings D1C, D1K and D1W. Substandard fibrous material is fed together with strands of a reinforcing material to the needles of a knitting machine whereby the strand is caused during the knitting action to surround or partially surround the fibrous material to form a core yarn so as produce a cheap knitted fabric. In one example the fibrous material, which may take the form of cotton motes is fed on to a layer of paper 9, Fig. 1, to which it is bonded and agglutinated by an adhesive from a trough 16 being spread over it as the two layers pass between rollers 17, 18 and thereafter heavy rollers 19, 20. The bonded material is then slit into strands 23 which are fed at the feeders of the knitting machine whereby a core yarn is produced during the knitting of the fabric. Alternatively the fibrous material may be bonded and fed separately from the paper web. The two webs are then individually slit and the strands combined at the feeders of the machine to be fed together to the needles to form the core yarn and fabric. If desired the fibrous material strands may be reinforced by yarns fed from bobbins on the machine.
