Abstract
1468257 Travelling-wave tubes SIEMENS AG 12 June 1974 [19 Sept 1973] 26006/74 Heading H1D A coupled-cavity slow-wave structure for a transit-time tube operable at millimetre wavelengths, and in which the transverse walls 5 each have a central beam passage aperture 6 and a coupling aperture 7 disposed in diametrically opposite positions in successive walls, is provided with axially directed cylindrical alternating bodies 9 mounted in openings 8 in the walls 5 and arranged alternatively on opposite sides of the axis, the bodies projecting into the cells by an amount which varies along the structure to provide reflection-free attenuation. Each body 9, which may be of tungsten, aluminium oxide, beryllium oxide, or boron nitride, may be soldered into its opening 8 and project into both of the adjacent cells. The extent of projection may, as shown, increase to a maximum at an intermediate point along the length of the structure, or, in a severed structure, may increase steadily from one end to the other of a severed section; alternatively, it may vary along the structure in a manner providing equal heat dissipation in all the cells.
