Abstract

1336408 Travelling-wave tubes SIEMENS AG 26 July 1972 [27 July 1971] 34914/72 Heading HID A travelling-wave tube having a slow-wave structure mounted within the envelope by axially extending dielectric support rods includes a plurality of additional, short support rods adjacent the collector end of the structure, whereby both the phase velocity of the structure at that end is decreased by reason of the increased dielectric loading, and the heat dissipation is enhanced. As shown, the helix 1 is supported throughout its length by the rods 2, and, at the collector end, additionally by the rods 3, which are tapered towards their upstream end (Fig. 1, not shown). The envelope is shaped to provide angled recesses for three of the rods, the remaining three being urged against the helix by a thrust plate 7, two copper rods 8, and a spring-plate 9 loaded by an oval toggle bar 10 which is rotated into the position shown after the introduction into the envelope of the other elements of the assembly.
