Tripping and like arrangements.-A machine for cutting out the corners of cardboard and like blanks is provided with a blank-feed stopping device operated from a registering-device when the movement of the latter is fouled by a blank incorrectly positioned under the cutter. The blanks are fed from the bottom of a pile on a table 53 by a reciprocating table 55, an adjustable gate 63 controlling the number of blanks simultaneously fed. Driven rolls 41 then feed the blanks into the cutting position, gauges 67, 68, and a stop 69 serving to position the same. An oscillating finger 73, raised into the path of feed by the weight of its connected parts and lowered therefrom by cam action, normally engages the rear of a blank to ensure the engagement of the blank with the stop 69. Should the finger 73 be unable to rise through a jamming of a blank above it, cam mechanism, normally inoperative, on a shaft 32 is brought into action to raise a stop 83 to prevent further feed of the blank until the obstruction has been removed, whereupon the stop 83 is lowered again by the release by the operator of a spring bolt 91 or the like. A pair of vertical plates serve to counteract any raising of the blank by the finger 73. The feed-table 53 and its associated feed mechanism are all carried by the adjacent carriage 11 so that the desired relationship of parts is not affected by adjustments of the latter.
