Abstract

140,695. Liberman, B. Sept. 3, 1919. Rotary type for cutting designs.-In a machine for cutting out cigar-wrappers, of the type in which a roller on a pivoted arm passes over a cutting-die against which the leaf is held by suction, the die is arranged so that it can be raised for cutting and lowered out of action while the cigar is being wrapped up, the suction being controlled at the same time by means of a valve operated by a pedal, which also serves to raise and lower the die. Means are also provided whereby different dies can be used to suit right-handed or lefthanded operators. The suction-box 12 slides in vertical guides and is operated by the pedal 25 through the crank 28 and roller 29 as shown, an arm 14 being provided for lowering the box positively if it should stick. The box 12 is connected by a flexible pipe 18 with a box 19 containing a valve 20 operated from the shaft of the crank 28 by a crank and connecting-rod 23. A cutting-plate 8 is mounted on the table 5 and has an opening to fit the die. Either of two dies arranged as shown in Fig. 3 may be mounted on the box 12 with a plate 8 having an opening correspondingly arranged.
