Abstract

1467112 Container closure A COOPER 17 Jan 1975 [17 Jan 1974] 2147/75 Heading B8T A closure cap 13, e.g. for the filling spout 2 of a vehicle fuel tank, has latching lugs 22, 23, downwardly extending blocking prongs 22<SP>1</SP>, 23<SP>1</SP>, for location of the lugs in the filler spout, and circumferentially extending retaining feet 22a, 23a, which prevent removal of the cap before excess pressure is vented. The lugs, prongs and feet may be formed separately or as an "L"-shaped structure as shown. The end of each retaining foot may be provided with a downwardly extending end projection (22b), Fig. 7 (not shown), to help locate the cap when fitting. The lugs (44), prongs (42) andfeet (43),Fig. 6 (not shown), may engage an external flange of the filling pipe. A spring-pressed sealing disc 21 is provided on the cap. To seal the spout, the retaining feet are inserted through the entry notches 5, 6 and the cap turned until the blocking prongs can be inserted through the notches whereupon the latching lugs can engage the cam surfaces 8, 11 and on further rotation of the cap the lugs ride over the cam surfaces until the stops 9, 12 are reached and the spout is sealed.
