Abstract

1465975 Hydrocracking; purifying lubricating oils TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 11 Feb 1974 [15 June 1973] 06112/74 Heading C5E A lubricating oil is obtained by (a) catalytically hydrocracking a crude lubricating oil, (b) distilling the hydrocracked material to remove the material boiling below 600‹ F. and enough of that boiling above 600‹ F. to give a predetermined flash point, and to separate a heart cut of predetermined viscosity from high fractions, (c) returning the whole of these higher fractions to the hydrocracking, and (d) dewaxing the heart cut. The crude lubricating oil may be a wax distillate or a deasphalted residuum. The preferred catalyst comprises Co and Mo on alumina containing 3À9% wt. of silica, and has a pure volume of 0À63 cm.<SP>3</SP>/g. and a surface area of 290 m.<SP>2</SP>/g. The heart cut may be solventextracted before it is dewaxed.
