Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the title base oil having excellent quality and stability, in high yield, by applying a specific treatment to a specific stock oil after the hydrogenation desulfurization treatment and before the solvent-extraction treatment.
CONSTITUTION: Vacuum-distilled gas-oil (which may be added with de-asphalted oil) is subjected to the hydrogenation desulfurziation treatment pref. under rather mild conditions to attain a sulfur content of ≤0.3wt%. The treated oil is then subjected to the de-waxing and/or vacuum-redistillation treatment to facilitate the complete removal of the unstable impurities from the stock oil. The de-waxing is carried out using a methyl ethyl ketone/toluene mixed solvent, and the vacuum redistillation treatment is performed under the conditions to obtain fractions having boiling point of ≥250°C. After the above treatments, or before the vacuum-redistillation treatment, the oil is extracted with a solvent which has high affinity to aromatic compounds.
