Abstract

1465348 Fuel injection pumps SOC D'ETUDES DE MACHINES THERMIQUES . 26 June 1974 [26 June 1973] 28309/74 Heading F1A In a fuel injection pump comprising a pumping plunger 13, a reciprocable tappet 2, and a spring- loaded cup shaped intermediate member 4 for urging the plunger towards the tappet, holes 6 controlled by automatic one-way valves 17 extend through the intermediate member to prevent pressure from building up in a space 7. The relief of pressure from the space 7 reduces the possibility of fuel leakage therein causing seizure of the quantity control rack 12. Air and fuel which passes through the holes 6 enters a space 8 provided with a breather 14 and a fuel recovery duct 16. Each valve 17 is in the form of a resilient plate 18 secured at one end to the intermediate member 4, or a freely displaceable disc (21) accommodated in a recess (22) in an annular holder 20 fixed to the intermediate member.
