Abstract

1,167,121. Diaphragm pumps. YARWAY CORP. Feb. 2, 1967 [July 28, 1966], No. 5103/67. Heading F1A. A hydraulically-actuated diaphragm pump comprises a diaphragm 25 with an actuating chamber 28 and a pumping chamber 29, the liquid in the actuating chamber being pulsated to reciprocate the diaphragm by a reciprocating piston 46 mounted in a rotor 41 and engaging a ring 73 in a control member 55, the eccentricity of which is manually adjustable by a vernier control, Figs. 3 and 5 (not shown). Air collecting in the actuating chamber 28 is vented into passages 80 by a shaft 85 having pockets 86, the shaft being rotated in steps by a cam 95 on rotor 41 acting through follower 93, lever 91 and clutch 92. The pockets 86 transfer air and/or actuating liquid from below to above shaft 85, and actuating liquid from above to below the shaft, the actuating liquid in passage 80 being made up from casing 23 through passage 84. Loss of actuating liquid from chamber 28 is also made up automatically through valve 97, a manual control 101 being provided for draining or initially filling chamber 28. An adjustable pressure-relief valve, Fig. 6 (not shown) is provided to prevent overloading of the actuating circuit.
