Abstract

1461925 Tubular heat exchangers BORSIG GmbH and R KRUEGER 18 April 1974 16974/74 Heading F4S A heat exchanger comprises housing containing a group of tubes 10, an inlet header 2 at one end of the housing and an outlet header 15 at the other, said headers having a respective inlet 1 and outlet 19 smaller in area than that of the housing, and both said headers decreasing in cross-sectional area from the housing towards said inlet and outlet openings, the inlet header containing a hood 4 with openings 5 in the wall thereof and spaced from the header wall 3 providing a channel 7 which fluid enters as shown by arrows in Fig. 2. Such fluid may rejoin the mainstream via ports 12 in the inlet duct 1, or, as shown in Fig. 4, it may be conveyed via the outer ring 11 of the tubes 10 to a space within the outlet header 15 defined by a baffle 16, from which space it is withdrawn by a jet pump arrangement shown as incorporated in the outlet duct 19. The intention is to reduce eddy currents and to unify the rate of fluid flow in the tubes 10 in particular where a uniform dwell time of the fluid passing through the tubes is of significance. Fluid distribution is said to be further improved by providing a deflector 9 in the throat of the inlet header.
