1459389 Structural joints STONE FIRMS Ltd 14 Dec 1973 [11 Oct 1972] 46874/72 Heading F2M [Also in Division El] Suspended ceiling or wall cladding is secured by elongate brackets 1 of generally L-shaped transverse cross-section anchored to the supporting wall 4, e.g. by plates 6 and bolts 5. One limb 8 of the bracket 1 projects normally from the wall 4 and is embraced by a support rail 2 which has at least one flange 13, 14. Cladding panels 3 are fixed at or adjacent their opposite edges by the engagement of corresponding flanges 13, 14 of spaced parallel rails 2 in recesses 15, 16 in or on the panels 3. Adjustment of the cladding may be provided in three orthogonal directions by the discrete positioning of crenellations on the plate 6 and limb 7 and on the embracing flanges 10, 11 of the channel 2 and limb 8 and by sliding of the panels on the rail 2 or of the rail on the brackets 1. One of the limbs of the brackets 1 may be longer than the other to provide additional adjustment capabilities and a crenellated packing shim may be provided behind the flange 7. The brackets and rails may be of plastics or aluminium alloy and the panels may be of glass reinforced plastics or natural stone. Sealing strips 17 may be provided between the panels and metal brackets may be fixed to the back of the panels with glass fibre reinforced plastics for engagement with the rails 2.
