Abstract
1457944 Friction false twisting KUGEL FISCHER GEORG SCHAFER & CO 11 Feb 1974 [12 Feb 1973 30 Nov 1973 4 Jan 1974] 06159/74 Heading D1D A rotatable element for friction false-twisting a thread comprises a peripheral threadcontacting surface composed of at least two annular portions of different diameter and made of at least two different materials having different coefficients of friction with the thread material, the material of higher coefficient being located at that part of the surface which has the greater diameter. In the false-twister shown, Fig. 13, each friction disc 37 includes a thread-contacting surface partformed by insert ring 49 having a higher coefficient than the disc material. The higher coefficient material is said to false twist the material, and the lower coefficient material to feed the thread. The disc peripheries are so curved that the thread follows a helical path through the device. The discs are mounted, Fig. 12, on spindles located at the corners of an equilateral triangle, and rotated by toothed belt 36. The coefficient of rings 49 and/or the disc thickness and/or the disc spacing may increase from disc 37' to disc 37". The alternative friction disc 2 of Figs. 7-11 variously include high coefficient rings 14, a ring of holes 17 extending axially of the discs, an annular flange 18 and a low coefficient ring 16 or 20. The higher coefficient material may be cast in place. The low coefficient material may be metal, e.g. brass, steel or aluminium, or a synthetic resin, e.g. based on polyoxymethylene polymer. The high coefficient material may be polyurethane or a synthetic rubber. The friction insert may be hollow with an annular friction insert at its inlet and/or outlet end.
