Abstract
1,114,135. False twisting yarn &c. TEIJIN Ltd. 16 Aug., 1965 [27 Aug., 1964; 28 Jan., 1965., 3 Feb., 1965], No. 35071/65. Heading D1D. In false-twisting filaments, a filament is run in frictional contact with the external surface of a head comprising a plurality of discs spaced apart along the axis of a rotating member, the filament being run obliquely with respect to the direction of rotation of the external surface, and fed and withdrawn from the head so that it is bent sharply around the end rims of the external surface. In a preferred form of head, the circumference of each disc is so shaped that the external surface of the head, considered as a whole, is barrel-shaped and the end-rim P, Fig. 9 of at least one of the ends discs projects axially beyond the end surface of the disc, so that a guide 3 may be positioned close to the head. To offset the tendency of the rim to be deformed by centrifugal force, a reinforcing inset 11 may be provided. By running the filament obliquely over the surface, the filament is subjected to a torsional force R sm #, Fig. 3, and a positive longitudinal feeding force, R cos #, in the direction of the filament axis the width of each disc may be less than its diameter. - There may be two discs comprising two spacer section of a barrel-shaped member, Fig. 7 not shown. Or there may be three spaced sections of such a member, the central section being greater in width than the end sections, Fig. 8 not shown. In Fig. 3, the discs are cylindrical and there are guides between them, so positioned as to cause the filament to change direction from one disc to another or to cause it to travel in a straight line. The guides may be so mounted as to be adjustable together. The head may be of one-piece construction, and comprise a cylindrical or barrelshaped inner portion having either alternating grooves and discs fitted with elastic rings or coated with elastic material, or rings of elastic material the end discs being made of harder material than the others.
