Abstract

1475698 False twisting ERNEST SCRAGG & SONS Ltd 27 March 1975 [6 April 1974] 15348/74 Addition to 1381132 Heading DID A friction false twist device having a plurality of overlapping rotary discs 11 arranged on axes 12 disposed in such manner that a thread 19 contacts the edge of each disc 11 in turn and is false twisted by being rotated by frictional contact with the moving edges as the discs 11 rotate all in the same direction, comprises an end disc 11(o) at the thread outlet end of the device, the disc 11(o) having a lesser coefficient of friction with the thread 19 than the inner discs 11 and is of larger diameter than the discs 11. Preferably, the device is provided with an inlet end disc 11(I) having a lesser coefficient of friction with the thread 19 than the inner discs 11 but is of smaller diameter than the discs 11. The discs 11 may be rubber or polyurethane tyred and the discs 11(o), 11(I) may have at least their rim portions formed of aluminium or stainless steel. For a polyester yarn in the denier range of 130 to 170, preferably 150, the discs 11 have a diameter of 45mm and a thickness of 4mm. The diameter of the disc 11(o) is 46-50 mm and of the disc 11(I) 40-44.5 mm. The distance between the axes 12 is 35.5mm and the gap between adjacent discs in the axial direction is 0.5 mm.
