1457473 A packing of pneumatic vehicle tyres CONTINENTAL GUMMI-WERKE AG 3 Sept 1974 [31 May 1974] 38348/74 Addition to 1457472 Heading B8C A packing of a plurality of pneumatic vehicle tyres 5 in the form of several layers of tyres partly overlapping one another in the manner of roofing tiles and compressed to a fixed end state with a direction of overlap alternating between the layers, and secured against resilient recoil, is characterized in that the layers, extending between rigid end stops 8, contain, in alternating sequence, even and odd numbers of tyres. As shown in Fig. 1, a large number of identical tyres 5 are stacked, in the manner described above, on a pallet 4 the odd and even layers containing respectively six and five tyres. The packing may contain two, or more, sideby-side rows of tyres. Fixed, or removablymounted, walls 18 are provided at both ends of the pallet. The loosely stacked pile of tyres is subjected to a compression force P, Fig. 1, and compacted to an end state, as shown in Fig. 2, the individual tyres being so interembraced between the walls 8 that any recoil movement of the tyres is substantially negligible. A tension-resistant member 9 may be fitted between the upper ends of the walls 8. After compression the walls 8 may be folded away, the completed packet unit being supported exclusively against the four corner sections of the pallet 4.
