Abstract

1337032 Packaging; boxes DIAMOND INTERNATIONAL CORP 22 Nov 1971 (29 Jan 1971] 54135/71 Headings B8C and B8P A packing element for separating, and protecting the ends of, elongated cylindrical tubes, such as fluorescent tubes 22, packed in layers in a case 10, comprises a moulded sheet such as 24 with arcuate tube receiving sockets 30 and including an end wall 36 and opposed side walls 32, 34 extending vertically from a base B. End wall 36 has a plurality of hollow triangular segments which form end-pieces for the tubular channels extending through sockets 30. Side walls 32, 34 define further triangular elements whose valleys 53 alternately lie in valleys passing between faces 43, 44 of the socket structures 38. Apertures 46 in structures 38 form a weakened resilient edge 48. No end wall is provided at edge 58 opposite wall 36, a second element being inverted above the first to form complete protection for tubes 22, as in Fig. 1. Longitudinal spacers 23 may be placed between sets of three tubes. In one embodiment, edges 48 may include tabs interlocking with the inverted element; in another sockets 30 may include dimples.
