Abstract
1455922 Temporary thread store; knitting machines IRO AB 15 March 1974 [16 March 1973] 11720/74 Headings D1C and D1J A thread storage feeder, for use with a textile machine able to drive one or more such feeders and having a circuit for controlling the machine drive, comprises a thread storage member, winding drive means by which thread can be wound upon the member to form a thread reservoir, a thread guide movable into two positions for operation of the feeder in a "positive feed" mode and an "intermittent thread withdrawal" mode, sensing means for sensing the size of the thread reservoir and for disconnecting the winding drive means during "intermittent thread withdrawal" when a max. reservoir has been attained, a switch settable in a condition I for "intermittent thread withdrawal" and in a condition II for "positive feed", and circuit means responsive to the sensing means when the switch is in condition II to provide a signal for de-energising the machine drive when the reservoir (a) exceeds a max. value (b) falls below a min. value or (c) exceeds a max. or falls below a min. value. "Positive feed" means that the textile machine withdraws thread at constant speed, and "intermittent thread withdrawal" means that the machine withdraws thread on demand. The device may comprise a thread storage drum 2 machine driven by belt 3 via clutch 4, and a ring 5 spring-biased to urge thread reservoir 6 downwards and connected to switch 7. The switch is connected either via condition I of switch 11 to control clutch 4, or via condition II of switch 11 and textile machine relay 21 to control the textile machine drive. For a positive feed, guide 9 is moved to guide withdrawn thread and to bring switch 11 to condition II. If reservoir 6 exceeds a given max., ring 5 closes switch 7 to stop the textile machine. For an intermittent thread supply guide 9 is removed from the withdrawn thread and moves switch 11 to condition I. When reservoir 6 exceeds a max., ring 5 closes switch 7 to discharge clutch 4. Alternatively, switch 7 may be closed by rung 5 when reservoir 6 falls below a min. In condition II of switch 11 the closed switch 7 is connected to stop drive 20, and in condition I closed switch 7 is connected to engage clutch 4. Further ring 5 may be connected to two switches so that in condition II it closes a first switch when a max. reservoir is exceeded to stop the textile machine, and closes the second switch when a min reservoir is reached. In condition I only the first switch controls clutch 4. The thread is monitored for breakage at the inlet and outlet of the feeder, thread breakage closing switches, e.g. switch 14, to stop the textile machine and switch on indicator light 15. Belt 3 and clutch 4 may be replaced by an electric motor also controlled by switch 7. The thread may be wound onto and withdrawn from a stationary drum 2.
