Abstract

The yarn feed device has a drum (16), a drum feed apparatus having a driven shaft and a thread guide (30), and a d.c. motor (22) for driving the shaft (20) and also an electrical circuit for feeding the d.c. motor (22). This circuit has, on the one hand, a speed regulating unit (70) with which a manually (78) adjustable speed can be kept constant. The circuit further includes a detector apparatus (90/92) for registering the yarn supply on the drum (16) and an on/off switch control (94) for interrupting the motor feed voltage, the response time of this on/off switch control being calculated such that, during the interruption of the motor feed, the balloon (98) and the yarn tension are largely held constant. Problems with loop formation and casting off and also thread breakage are thereby avoided to a large extent over a large range of thread thicknesses and feed rates.
