Abstract

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for winding freshly spun and/or drawn threads 46 at substantially constant speed onto a reel 45. The instantaneous deviation of winding speed of the thread from a desired value is utilized as a control variable for influencing this winding speed. The reel speed and instantaneously effective reel radius are scanned simultaneously at 13,47 and are multiplied together at 27 to form the instantaneous winding speed. The deviation of the product formed from the desired value is fed into a control circuit 43 for influencing the winding speed i.e. the reel drive motor 36. The control is modified by the measured motor current. <IMAGE>
