Abstract

1318084 Automatic speed control BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDERS CABLES Ltd 27 April 1971 [27 April 1970] 20024/70 Heading G3R [Also in Divisions D1 and G1] A system for maintaining, constant the linear velocity of wire W wound on a take-up drum 1 comprises a wire speed measuring device including a tachogenerator 11 and a coil radius responsive contact arm 9 (see Division G1) generating a voltage Vo which is combined with a reference voltage from a ramp function generator 27, the difference signal being fed to operational amplifier 24 and D.C. amplifier 23 supplying split field windings 21, 22 of a D.C. servomotor 20 driving the drum, which windings control the torque of the motor so as to maintain the wire at a desired speed. It is stated that when the reference voltage from the ramp generator has reached the valve at which it is maintained constant, the linear velocity of the wire will be maintained substantially constant.
