Abstract

1373883 Knitting machines IRO AB 8 Nov 1972 [29 Nov 1971] 51530/72 Heading D1C A yarn storage feeder may operate in either a positive yarn feed mode, or an intermittent yarn feed mode: when operating in the positive feed mode (see the Figure) the textile machine is switched off if the yarn reservoir V falls below a specified minimum quantity. Yarn F from a bobbin 8 is wound on a drum 2 tangentially and pressed down by a transport element 9, which if it tilts too far causes a rod 15 to open a switch 17 thus switching off the textile machine motor 6 which drives the drum 2 also. If the yarn breaks between the bobbin 8 and the drum 2 a stop motion switches off the machine, but as the machine slows down yarn continues to be drawn from the reservoir, but is not replaced. After several such breaks the reservoir could fall below the specified minimum and the machine will be stopped to enable the yarn reservoir to be replenished by hand or by auxiliary devices. The pivoted arm 24 may also act as a stop motion. In a modification the arm 24 may be swung downwards parallel to the drum axis, to provide intermittent yarn feed. In this case the transport element 9 is modified to switch a clutch or separate drive to the drum 2 so that the drum can be driven independently of the textile machine drive.
