Abstract

1455149 Gas/liquid contact; vortex separators ENTOLETER INC 20 Dec 1973 [26 Dec 1972] 59239/73 Headings B1F, B1R and B2P [Also in Division F4] In a multistage vortical mass contactor for e.g. gas/liquid contact, air from 11, Fig. 2, passes through louvred walls comprising louvres 14, 16 and 18 to flow as a vortex in each chamber defined by these walls, water being fed into the gas flow path from 25, Fig. 1, e.g. by being picked up by the air vortex from pool 32A and as the water flows downwardly from 23 through annular gap 27, larger drops passing outwards through the louvred walls e.g. through apertures in the louvres, for contact with the inward flowing gas in successive chambers, and the smaller drops being carried up to chamber 80 where they separate out by a further vortex. The vanes of cage 24 reverse the direction of spiral motion imparted .by the vanes of cage 21. The gas/liquid contact may be scrubbing dust laden air, humidifying air, distillation, heating or cooling gas or chemical reaction.
