Abstract

1451531 Swing needle sewing machine SINGER CO 21 Jan 1974 [11 May 1973] 2804/74 Heading D1G A sewing machine having means for disengaging the connection between the needle gate and pattern information carriers (pattern cams 21 as shown) is provided with means for disconnecting the needle drive before the said connection is disengaged. The needle gate oscillating mechanism comprises a link 24 engaged with the follower 20 of cam 21 by a transfer plate 23 apertured to receive a link 34 on a bell crank lever 30 presenting an arm 37 engageable by a block 38 carried on a bracket 41 having a follower 44 engaging a cam face 45 on a manually operable knob 46. Movement of the knob to a fully turned position thereby causes link 34 to remove plate 23 and, by spring 55, the follower 20 from the zone of action of cam 21. At this position of the knob a finger 121 engages a latch notch 125 on the knob. Subsequent rotation of a machine shaft (120 Fig. 4 not shown) causes a cam (118) to tilt the bracket carrying finger 121 to release the knob. As the knob moves through an intermediate position, before reaching the fully turned position, a cam face 103, 104 operates a follower nose 101 which operates through linkage 96, 92, 90 to release a latch (68, 69 Fig. 4 not shown) normally entraining the needle bar 60 with its driving stud (61) a spring (62) then raising the disengaged needle bar to withdraw the needle clear of the work before further movement of the knob disengages the follower 20 from the pattern cam 21.
