1395626 Swing needle sewing machine SINGER CO 26 July 1972 [16 Aug 1971] 34919/72 Heading DIG In a cam selection mechanism in the needle jogging linkage of a zig zag sewing machine the follower arm 59 is moved away from the cams 52-54 while being moved from one to the other. This is achieved by the provision of a block 80 having a first cam control surface 86-89 which raises the follower lever 59 as the block slides transversely to the pin 49 on which lever 59 is slidably pivoted and a second cam control surface 96, 97 which simultaneously pivots a lever 67, through its pin 71, to cause its arm 68 to move the needle jogging linkage 30 against spring 33, away from the cams when the further spring 73 connecting lever 67 to the follower arm 59 can swing the latter away from the cams. The block is moved transversely to pin 49 by a manually operated lever 100, 102. Needle jogging. The follower 59 has a cam follower edge 61 and an edge 62 which engages a rib 63 on a lever 35 to oscillate the latter about its pivot on a needle positioning bracket 37 pivoted at 38 to the machine frame and movable by a lever 48, 50 to select the field in which the needle jogs. A lever 40, 41 selectively positions the end 32 of the needle jogging drive link 30 radially along a rib 34 extending below the oscillating lever 35 to vary the amplitude of oscillation imparted by link 30 to the pivoted needle bar gate 25.
