Abstract

1442437 Thread tensioning in sewing machines SINGER CO 4 Sept 1973 [13 Nov 1972] 41501/73 Heading DIG The force acting on the discs of a thread tensioner in a sewing machine is derived from the force which a magnet 52 exerts on a lever 42. The lever fulcrum is a stud 51 and by rotating the magnet about the stud 56 the mechanical advantage of the lever may be altered. Alternatively, or in addition, the air gap between the magnet and the lever may be altered. The force is transmitted via the other arm 54 of the lever to a rod 43 which presses the discs together. A known arrangement for releasing the tension when the presser foot is raised is provided via a cam (36, Fig. 1 not shown), a rod 38, levers 39 and 40 acting on the lever 54.
