Abstract

925,372. Sewing-machines. A. VIGORELLI FABBRICA MACCHINE PER CUCIRE S.p.A. Oct. 21, 1959 [Oct. 21, 1958], No. 35680/59. Class 112. A sewing-machine having a plurality of coaxial cams driven together by a step-by-step drive for automatic cyclical control of the needle bar oscillating means, feedadjusting means, and lateral shifting of the work table, has operatorcontrolled means for varying the amplitude of the steps imparted to the cams by the said drive. The cams 23 are detachably engaged with a tubular shaft 24 integral with the driven portion 28 of a uni-directional roller clutch whose driving portion 29 is oscillated by a link 44 from a traveller 42 slidably mounted on a pivoted member 39 oscillated by the main shaft 34. The position of the traveller on its rod 41, and hence the amplitude of the movement of clutch portions 28, 29, is manually variable, through linkage 49, 50, by a knob 47 on a shaft 48. Needles shifting laterally, multiple needle machines.-A pivoted device 35, integral with a fork 33 engaging a rotating cam 32, has a traveller 37 slidably mounted on a rod 36 and pivoted to a connecting-rod 38 included in a linkage (not described) for lateral oscillation of a needle bar adapted to carry one or more needles. Movement of the traveller 37 along its rod to vary the amplitude of oscillation is effected by linkwork comprising link 93, lever 92, link 90 and the follower lever 88 which engages a surface 56 of one of the cams. An eccentric 97 may be manually operated by a knob 95 to engage the lever 92 to limit its motion. The mechanism can be disengaged by rotating a knob 99, to swing lever 101 anticlockwise, the link 102 then moving the upper end of link 90 along the slot 104 in lever 92 to raise the lever 88 from the surface 56. Feed by dogs, reversing and regulating.-A second cam 52 of the group 23 co-operates with a follower comprising a two-armed lever 62, 63 to lift a link 67 connected to mechanism (not shown) controlling the amplitude and direction of feed dog movement. The lever 62, 63 is pivoted at 64 to a plate 72 itself pivoted at 73 and manually rotatable about that pivot by a knob 78 and lever 76 to disengage the follower from the cam 52. Manual operation of a knob 68 rotates an eccentric 70 which engages the lever arm 63 to adjustably limit the movement of the lever. Zig-zag feed.-A cam groove 54 in cam 52 engages a pin in one arm of a two-armed lever 80, 81 connected to a laterally shiftable workplate (not described) in which the feed dog is guidably carried. A manually-operated knob 85 is connected by means 82, 83, 84 to workplate amplitude adjustment means (not described). Frames.-The manually-operated knobs are located in a front panel 21 formed on the front face of the machine and provided with a hinged door 22 located in front of the removable cams.
