Abstract

781,327. Sewing-machines. VIGORELLI SOC. PER ARZIONI. A. March 29, 1955 [April 5, 1954], No. 9139/55. Class 112 A machine for producing ornamental stitching comprises means for shifting the needle-bar transversely of the general direction of feed and means for shifting the feed-dog also transversely to this direction in addition to means for reciprocating the feed-dog in the general direction of feed. Needles, shifting laterally. In the machine described, a transverse shaft in the machine arm, driven from the needlebar shaft by helicoidal gears, carries a group of cams (which may be exchangeable for others) for selective actuation of a horizontal follower lever which is connected by a substantially vertical link to a block sliding in an angularly adjustable grooved member, the block being connected by a horizontal link to the upper end of a vertical lever pivotally connected at its lower end to the needle-bar gate. Feed by dogs. The feed-dog moves in the direction of longitudinal feed in an aperture in a plate to which is imparted lateral movements by cam-actuated mechanism, so that the resultant movement of the work may be in any desired direction. In the mechanism shown the longitudinal feed may be derived alternatively from camactuated mechanism, providing cyclicallyvariable feed, or from mechanism of the usual kind. The feed-bar 55, with an enlarged flat end resting on a roller 100 on a feed-lift arm, is slidably pivoted on a spindle 72 supported by arms 70 upstanding on a rock-shaft 69 on which is fixed a member 91 carrying means whereby it may be clutched to a rocker 92 freely mounted on it and oscillated by the usual link 93 or to another rocker 68 actuated by the cam mechanism. The latter rocker has slidably mounted in it a spindle 67 to which is fixed an arm 65 having sliding engagement with one arm 66 of a lever pivoted at 53; the other arm 52 of this lever carries a follower engaging a cam 50 driven by worm gear from the loop-taker shaft 35. The spindle 67 is moved longitudinally against a spring, to vary the travel of the arm 65 by shifting it along the lever arm 66 and thereby to vary the work feed, by a hand-operated lever 81, which also actuates the means for clutching the rock-shaft 69 to one or the other of the rockers 68, 92. Lateral movement of the feed-bar is imparted by connection from a pin 39 adjustable along a slotted pivoted arm provided with a follower engaging a cam groove 32. In a modification not providing for use of the normal feed mechanism 93. the lever 52. 66 is replaced by a slotted lever pivoted to the feed-bar at one end, engaging the cam at the other end. and mounted on a pivot which is adjustable 'along the slot to vary the feed movement produced. All the camactuated mechanisms can be adjusted to produce no effect if desired. Upper and lower shafts, connecting. The needle-bar and loop-taker shafts are connected by a toothed belt
