Abstract

145,125. Tilley, F. C. March 20, 1919. Incandescent vapour burners; vaporizing-apparatus.-An inverted incandescent vapour lamp comprises a cylindrical housing 1 adapted to carry a globe or shade, a curved vaporizing-tube 11 fitted with a nipple 12, a T-piece 13 carrying a screwed oil connexion 14, a Venturi mixing-tube 6 having a lateral air inlet 7, and a vertical superheating tube 8 carrying the burner head 10 and formed with a screwed attachment-hole 9. The nipple 12 is cleaned by a wire 18 passing through a curved guide-tube 23 in the tube 11, and a gland 17 in the T-piece 13, to reciprocating means consisting of a button 19 on a collar 20 secured by a screw 31 to the wire 18 and to a splayended tube 21 which is slidable in a screwed tube 22 on the connexion 14. The oil supply pipe 15 is provided with feathers 32 engaging slots 25 in the connexion 14 and is secured in position by means of a union nut 27. The union nut is of large diameter compared with the coned seating 26 so that it may be tightened by hand. The nipple 12 supports the upper end of the tube 23 by means of a centering-piece 30 and is formed with a groove 12a which is engaged by a clip on the housing 1. Wire gauze may be inserted in the vaporizing-tube 11. The housing 1 is fitted with an annular spirit-cup 28 for preheating the vaporizing-tube, and an opening 8 is provided on the housing for the escape of the products of combustion.
