Abstract
237,868. De Vilbiss Appliance Co., (Assignees of Vilbiss, J..4. de). July 30, 1924, [Convention date]. Vapour and pulverulent fuel burners; vaporizing-apparatus. - Oil or pulverulent fuel is supplied through a pipe 9 to the inner end of a rapidly-rotating cup-shaped member 5 arranged in a firebox x and is vaporized or gasefied by passing through an annular chamber la formed between the conical side wall of the member 5 and a frusto-conical member 6. The vapour or gas issues through ports 1<b> at the outer end of the member 5 and with air supplied by a fan D burns in the firebox x forming a flame that flows over the member 5. The flame is preferably confined by a stationary sleeve 3 projecting into the firebox so as to ensure the member 5 being maintained at a high temperature. The fan D and its driving motor A are arranged in a housing B, B<1>, the motor shaft C being extended and screwed into the member 6 which is provided at it's base with a threaded flange 8 screwing into the member 5. The member 5 may be provided near its discharge ports 1<b> with radial vanes 11 and the member 1 may be provided in a recessed portion of its base with air ports 12 so as to ensure a thorough mixing of the gas with air. An auxiliary air supply may be admitted through ports 14 formed in the outer end of the sleeve 3 and controlled by an adjustable damper 15. A suction may be created in the vaporizing chamber 1<a> by the provision of vanes 16 at its discharge end and combustion gases may be admitted to the vaporizing chamber through port's 13 in the end wall of the member 5. In order to prevent the deposit of carbon when burning low-gravity fuel a small quantity of water may be fed simultaneously with the fuel to the vaporizing chamber through a pipe 10.
