Abstract

4014. Hartley, W. Feb. 19. Incandescent. vapour lamps.-In inverted lamps for burning petrol, paraffin, or like vapour, the vapour nipple B discharges into an enlarged chamber C, to which air is admitted by a removable tube having perforated sides b<1>, or by a hit-andmiss valve. The mixing-tube F, which if desired may be enlarged at one or more points, terminates in a nozzle J, preferably formed with a contracted outlet j<1>. The mantle-holding ring N is connected by rods K to a collar M, which may be adjustably secured on the burner body or on the mixing-tube by a set-screw. A shield T, mounted upon the starting cap R and carrying the globe holder S, deflects the heated products of combustion from the air inlets b<1>, which may be supplemented by other inlets b<2> in the top of the chamber C. The globe may be secured by set-screws V or by spring clips. If two or more burner nozzles are employed, the mixing-tube F is continued into the junction, as shown at f<1>, Fig. 3, to prevent the flame from lighting back.
