Abstract

1449234 Flux for steel casting USS ENGINEERS & CONSULTANTS Inc 31 Oct 1973 [31 Oct 1972] 50645/73 Heading C7M [Also in Division B3] A flux comprising a prefused mixture (in particulate form) of, in weight per cent:- CaF 2 20 to 60% CaO 5 to 30% K 2 O/Na 2 O 10 to 30% B 2 O 3 5 to 20% SiO 2 15% max Al 2 O 3 5% max C 10% max and having a melting point in the range 1400‹ to 1900‹F is fed on to the surface of molten steel in a continuous casting mould at a maximum rate in lbs/ton of steel 0.017 times the area, in square feet, of the top and sides of a one ton length of steel billet or slab being cast. The minimum rate of feed is 0À0022 times the same area. A film 0À0003 inches thick is said to be formed. The steel may contain more than 0.010 per cent Al.
