Abstract

Holling Sand-blast. - Relates to sand-blast apparatus with continuous blast and having a rotary table on which the workcarrier rings or circulars are mounted, and comprises a mounting for these, whereby they may be given a reciprocating movement in an horizontal plane to move them into and out of operative position, and means for holding down the articles to be treated on the carrier rings. Mounted centrally on, or forming part of a rotary platform b is a cylindrical body a having at its upper end horizontal guide bars a<2> supporting by means of rollers a<3> a carriage c having thereon two or more stationary carrier rings or circulars c<1> adapted to communicate with the interior of the cylindrical body by means of openings c<2>. The articles f to be treated are mounted on the carrier rings with an air and dust-tight joint, formed of a ring h of rubber and a ring h<1> of wood or metal, therebetween, and are held down by means of levers e pivoted to a head d<1> adjustable on a vertical pillar d mounted on the carriage. Each lever carries a spring buffer f<2> adapted to engage the article f and may be locked in position against the action of a spring e* by means of a spring controlled rod e<1> adapted to engage in the teeth of a quadrant d<2> and to be locked by means of a trigger e<2> and a spring-controlled hook e<3>. In operation, the article f is located, by longitudinal movement of the carriage on the guides, over the cylindrical member and is cleaned by sand from the nozzle g; the carriage is then moved to bring the other article over the nozzle, the first article being removed and replaced by another. As the carriage is moved, sand &c. is returned by way of perforations a<4> formed in an annular recess a<5> in the cylindrical body and opening into an annular space formed by a sleeve a<6> mounted centrally within the body. The underside of the carriage is fitted with a replaceable hard white iron plate j to guard the underside of the carriage as this moves over the nozzle. Inclined scoops a' are carried by the cylindrical body to catch any sand &c. falling from the articles, and communicate by means of holes a<3> with the interior of the body.
