Abstract

1517844 Rod cooling KOBE STEEL Ltd 19 Jan 1976 [18 Jan 1975 (3)] 02019/76 Heading D1T Coils of rod 17 are carried on rails 13 and moved by endless chains 14 over a cooling bed 12, the bed having nozzle portions 15 some of which direct cooling fluid towards the parts of the coils directly above the rails and chains at an inclination of 10‹-70‹ and at an angle to the transport direction of 10‹- 150‹ and others of which direct fluid towards the transverse edge portions of the loops at an inclination of 15‹ - 75‹ and at an angle to the transport direction of 30‹ - 150‹. This improves the uniformity of cooling. The nozzle portions are integral with the top of the bed which encloses a compressed air chamber- Further nozzles 18 can be provided directly below the chains. The nozzle portions can be shaped to direct a flow of different directions simultaneously, Figs, 8 and 9 (not shown). The rails can be staggered from one bed section to another or inclined as shown in Fig. 13. Alternatively they may be aligned.
