Abstract
588,807. Saw benches. TYTHERLEIGH, A. H. March 8, 1945, No. 5784. [Class 145 (ii)] A saw bench has a slotted worksupporting carriage reciprocating over one or more vertical circular saws which project through the slots into the path of the work carried thereby and are mounted for withdrawal in a direction transverse to the direction of movement of the carriage and axially of the saw shaft. The main bed 1 with transverse stays 5 has rails 22 along which runs the carriage 20, the stroke of which is so limited by stops that it always overlies the saws. Circular saws 6 are carried on a horizontal shaft 16 driven by a belt from an electric motor 18. The shaft 16 is fixed only at one end in a bearing 9 and supported by crossslides 7, 7a which are slidable along a transverse slideway 8 so that the saws 6, cross-slides 7, 7a and spacing collars 15 are removable from the free end of the shaft 16. The carriage 20 is lifted out of the way of the saws during removal by a pair of detachable ramps. Means for holding the work down on to the saws may be provided. The carriage may be reciprocated manually or by mechanical means.
