684,330. Circular saws. HARWOOD, P., and JACOB, G. R. Nov. 14, 1950 [Nov. 14, 1949], No. 29052/49. Class 145 (ii). A circular saw has two parallel blades acting simultaneously and a positively acting driving means to advance the work at a speed relative to that of the saw, the driving means being connected via a variable ratio gearing to an endless chain conveying means having dogs projecting at intervals. Preferably every link is drilled to be capable of receiving a dog and the chain moves in a longitudinal slot centrally disposed in the bench. The embodiment shown has blades 11, 12 and an endless chain 33 carrying dogs (not shown) at intervals to engage the work placed in the central slot between tables 14, 15 which latter can be adjusted to incline downwardly to the chain to form a guiding trough for the work. The metal bearers 19, 20 support the work as it is being sawn. The saws are each laterally adjustable on splined shaft 13a, and are also steadied, by being engaged by shanks carried by an arm and engaging the saw near its periphery. A wheel 48 bears down on the sawn work to guide it and it may be driven or idle. An overhead V-roller may be provided in front of the saws for centering purposes. The dogs may be spring-loaded to lay flat when the work lies on top of them.
