Abstract
847,083. Core-making machines. FOUNDRY EQUIPMENT Ltd., and BEECH, A. S. Jan. 29, 1958 [Oct. 29, 1956], No. 32939/58. Class 83 (1). A foundry core-blowing-machine comprises the combination of a carriage, a core-boxsupport mounted in the carriage so that it may be inverted with respect to the carriage, a core-box mounted in the support, guides to enable the carriage to run between a filling-station and a removing- station, a sand-box at the filling- station for holding a charge of sand-mix, means for delivering sand from the sand-box to the core-box at the filling-station, and means for inverting the core-box support at the removing-station and removing the core from the core-box. The machine comprises two core-box assemblies 16, 17, which are mounted on carriages, one on each side of a central station 11, to which they move in turn. Each assembly, Fig. 6, comprises a rectangularsupport 20 in which the parts of a core-box are clamped between hydraulically-actuated platens 57, 58, 65, 66, and which is mounted for inversion on trunnions 51, 52. The trunnion 52 carries a pinion 72, Fig. 3, which meshes with a rack 71 carried by an hydraulic piston 75, the travel of which is cushioned at each end of its stroke by buffer cylinders 77, 83. The inversion may also be halted in an intermediate position, Fig. 2, by a cylinder 253. At the station 11, the core-box assembly is lifted from its supporting rails 14 15, by a pneumatic ram 18 to clamp the core-box against a sand-box 30, from which sand is blown into the core-box. The sand-box is movable on rails 32 extending from front-to-back of the station 11, between the blowing position and a position for refilling beneath a shoot, there being provided a shut-off valve-plate between the sand-box and the shoot. Pressure-air for the blowing is supplied through two spring-loaded diaphragm-valves 125. After blowing, the core-box assembly is lowered by the ram 18, and a squeeze-pin assembly 34 is moved on rails 35, Figs. 8 and 9, into position between the core-box and the sand-head, whereafter a further upward movement of the core-box assembly lifts a plate 118 against the resistance of air-cylinders 123, allowing the pressure-pins 120 to protrude through the plate 118 and ram the sand in the box. When the core has thus been blown and rammed, the assembly is lowered on to its track 14, 15, and is moved outwardly from the central station 11, to an extreme position whereat the core-box support 20 is inverted. Support-rails 147, carrying a drier plate 151, are then moved upwardly by a ram 144, and the core is deposited on said plate by releasing the core-box clamping-platens 57, 58, 65, 66. Lowering of the support withdraws the core fully from the box sections, and an arm 42 on a vertical pivot 43, Fig. 13, and carrying a fork 41, is swung to insert the fork beneath the drier-plate. Operation of a handle 163, Fig. 12, raises the fork sufficiently to lift the drier-plate from the support, and the arm is swung out so that the plate and core may be deposited on to a conveyer for removal to a baking-oven. Meanwhile the opposite core-box assembly 17 has been run into the station 11, and passed through the core-blowing operation. The inversion may be halted in the intermediate position shown in Fig. 2, and the drier plates then fitted, permanent-magnets being provided on the core-box support for holding the drier-plates in place during inversion. Fig. 1 shows two machines, each comprising a central station and two corebox assemblies, placed in line.
