Abstract

1448493 Inverting BBC BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 19 Sept 1973 [21 Sept 1972] 44024/73 Heading H2F An inverter comprises two part circuits each including a bridge of four thyristors T3 ... T6 having a commutating capacitor C1 connected across one diagonal, a centre-tapped inductor Ls and a D.C. supply line connected as shown, an A.C. output connection being made to the centre-tap of inductor Ls. Fig. 2 shows one such part circuit in which commutating capacitor C1 is initially charged via resistors R1, R2 and discharged into the main thyristors T1 or T2 by turning on commutating thyristors T3, T5 or T4, T6. The current in the load Z is shared by one of the main thyristors T1, T2 and one of the free-wheeling diodes D<SP>1</SP>1, D<SP>1</SP>2. Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) show one phase of a three-phase inverter effectively comprising two circuits T1...T6 in series across a D.C. supply. It is shown that if the commutating thyristors T3, T4 or T5 and T6 are made simultaneously conductive, the "main" thyristors T1, T2 may be omitted, giving the circuit shown in Fig. 6.
